Original: The eruption of Tambora caused a large number of deaths. It was the largest number of deaths since the late eighteenth century. Tambora was a volcano on an Indonesian island. Tambora exploded in April 1815. Tambora coughed up huge amounts of magma. It left a thick layer of ash everywhere. A good part of its summit cone was destroyed during the eruption. Tambora all but disappeared. In its place was a gigantic hollow. The hollow extended for miles in all directions. The explosion and tidal waves killed about 10,000 people. The tidal waves were a result of the explosion. An additional 82,000 people died from famine and disease. Ash deposits on the land caused famine and disease
